Interior design has become a well sought profession that gives talented and creative individuals the chance to play with their creativity. Interior architecture is a term used to encompass three different design disciplines which are architecture, interior design and industrial design. It is clear however that most people are more familiar with the home interior design concept that with the others. The main difference between the two terms and thus disciplines is that interior design is aimed at the selection of interior materials, furnishing and finishes while interior architecture, in its narrowest sense refers to the architecture of the building’s and systems’ design. Moreover, architecture is also concerned with the specific features of the exterior of a building and it may encompass anything from initial plans of design to the redesign that is aimed at accommodating a different purpose.

Interior architecture is commonly used to describe one of the four main issues. Firstly, it can represent the art and science of designing interiors of buildings as well as their related features. Secondly, it may refer to the practice of an interior architect while thirdly it can describe, in general terms, building interiors. Lastly, architecture design can be the style chosen by an interior design company to change the interior of a building. Therefore, one should not confuse home interior design with interior architecture.
